The role

As a Hydraulic Engineer at WSce, you will be responsible for developing innovative engineering designs and overseeing their delivery through construction, commissioning, handover, and post-implementation review. This role allows you to work independently while supported by senior personnel within our Melbourne team.

Role Specifics

Design Solutions
  • Independently produce high quality design solutions for clients on small scale project assignments and provide technical input to more senior staff as part of complex projects.
  • Understand, interpret, and meet design requirements set out in client scope of work documents and project briefs.
  • Produce timely and accurate technical drawings, calculations and clear design reports that are consistent with internal standards such as the Internal Business Manual and relevant policies as well as external standards such as ISO9001 and applicable legislation.
  • Research and validate appropriate design solutions, ensuring detailed and accurate information relating to their use is available for our clients.
  • Create tests to verify effectiveness of design solutions to ensure they are fit for purpose and from time to time, undertake peer review of other design solutions.
  • Interrogate existing design solutions to find faults or identify performance and efficiency enhancements, proposing suitable remediations.
Oversee delivery of design solutions
  • Provide accurate, thorough, and timely handover documentation to construction members of the project team and remain available to interpret design recommendations as required.
  • Periodically attend site inspections, review contractors work and prepare site inspection reports.
  • Review contractors shop drawings, RFIs and collaborate with other members of the project team to trouble shoot issues as they arise.
Project Management
  • Accurately input data to project management, time recording and financial systems and maintain regular status reporting on deliverables, flagging issues and suggesting resolutions.
  • Work within project budget and delivery timeframes, proactively identifying to the Project Managers any risks to planned delivery, creep in scope or variations to design briefs.
  • Keep a detailed record of all input data that informs design decisions, ensuring the decision making process is documented and easy to understand.
  • Keep all other internal records up to date such as performance tracking tools, training records, goal progression and career progression.

About You

As a Hydraulic Engineer, you bring exceptional hydraulic experience, strong project management skills, and thorough technical expertise. You are confident in communicating with clients and business partners and are dedicated to contributing to our team’s success culture.

Ideal Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s in Engineering; a Master’s in Engineering or equivalent highly regarded.
  • Diploma of Engineering, Diploma of Construction, Diploma or Associate Diploma in Plumbing Services, or a Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services will be considered.
  • At least 3+ years’ local experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering principles and ability to propose design solutions for various client needs.
  • Intermediate/advanced knowledge of and skills in Engineering & Project Management software/platforms including Revit, AutoCAD, Procore, Bluebeam and ACONEX.
  • Strong capability across Microsoft Office applications.
  • Recognised as a team player with strong organisational skills and clear communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve by accurately evaluating various data sources and making informed decisions.
  • Solid project management skills, capable of delivering within time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Ability to build and leverage effective relationships.
