Lyric Theatre

A new lyric theatre in Canberra’s city centre.

A lyric theatre is a venue built to accommodate large-scale performances such as musicals, ballet and opera. The new theatre is part of a transformation to Canberra’s City Centre, which includes the light rail expansion, new public spaces and the new aquatic centre.

WSce developed and delivered design phases associated with the new purpose built Lyric Theatre in Canberra to host major national and international events. Civil, fire, and hydraulics services required special consideration for a building of this nature such as, large discrepancies between peak and off peak demand loads, operational requirements associated with the venue use, space and equipment efficiencies to due the location within the City Centre.
