Sydney Swans
Training Grounds

The relocation of the Sydney Swans training ground from the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) to Tramway Oval due to the construction of the new Sydney Football Stadium.

Overview

Tramway Oval underwent a transformative reconstruction and expansion to serve as the Sydney Swans’ high-performance training facility, replicating the Etihad Stadium playing surface and dimensions. The project encompassed relocating floodlights and installing new camera infrastructure for advanced training analysis. Additionally, the existing event Bus Interchange was relocated within the expanded site boundary to align with the CBD and South-East Light Rail project. This relocation facilitated the integration of public domain and wayfinding signage upgrades, prioritising patron safety and sustainability.

Our role

WSce provided civil services from concept through to construction completion for the new bus interchange and the Sydney Swans training facility. This included civil road design, pavement design, stormwater design, earthworks grading and cut/fill balances.

We also undertook stakeholder engagement with TfNSW, the Trust and the Sydney Swans to ensure the design parameters met with their set requirements. The project included a fast track program with nine months for design and construction to ensure the facility was ready for the start of the AFL season.
